You've Been Trying to Figure Out a Brain the World Wasn't Built For. That Gets Exhausting.

Maybe you’ve spent years being told to try harder, focus more, get it together. Maybe you’ve done all of that, and it still doesn’t stick.

Or maybe you’re somewhere in the perinatal period, pregnant, postpartum, or somewhere in between, and nobody told you it could feel this hard.

I’m Alaina Schrader, a licensed therapist at MK Counseling Services. I work with adult women navigating ADHD, neurodivergence, and perinatal mental health, and I bring a style that’s warm, flexible, and actually relatable.

I’m currently full, but I’d love to connect when space opens up.

Who I Work With

ADHD & Neurodivergence

You’ve been diagnosed, or you suspect you might be, and you’re tired of strategies that work for everyone else but not for you. Maybe you’re dealing with:

  • Masking exhaustion: showing up as someone the world expects, then collapsing at home
  • Executive function challenges that make simple tasks feel impossible
  • Rejection sensitivity that hits harder than people realize
  • A sense that you’re always running behind no matter how hard you try

My work is LGBTQ+ affirming and neurodiversity-affirming. You won’t spend sessions trying to act neurotypical. That’s not what this is.

Perinatal & Postpartum Mental Health

You thought this would feel different. Maybe you love your baby deeply and still feel empty, anxious, or like you’ve lost yourself completely. Both things are true, and neither makes you a bad mother.

I support women through pregnancy, postpartum depression and anxiety, perinatal loss, birth trauma, and the identity shift that comes with new parenthood, at every stage, without judgment.

My Approach

My approach doesn’t fit neatly into one box, and that’s intentional.
I’m neuroscience-informed and person-centered, which means I start from where you actually are, not where a treatment manual says you should be. I draw from Parts Work to help you understand the different parts of yourself that show up in different situations.

I use Polyvagal Therapy to help you understand your nervous system’s response to stress and build genuine safety. And I bring in practical skill building that actually fits how your brain works.

Sessions feel like a conversation, not a clinical intake. I use humor where it helps, I adapt to what you need in the moment, and I never ask you to mask in my sessions.

Your brain isn’t broken. It just came with a different instruction manual. My job is to help you read it.

What to Expect

I see all clients via telehealth, which means you can work with me from anywhere in Pennsylvania, from home, your car, wherever you actually have a moment to breathe.

I’m currently full and not accepting new clients, but I am accepting waitlist inquiries. When space opens up, I reach out to waitlist clients first.

Background & Training

You deserve a therapist who actually gets how your brain works. I'll be here when the timing is right.
